Seattle, Washington - Internet and New Media Design

Welcome to the online portfolio of Jeffery Dernbach

I am a designer - developer now living in Redmond, Washington with my family after spending five years in Houston, Texas working on our tans. For the last 10 years, I have worked for small companies and several large multi-nationals as a direct employee, contractor, and freelance professional. I met a ton of intelligent interesting people along the way and have enjoyed collaborating with all of them.

Outside of the world of computers I love music and photography. If I am not attending a J. S. Bach recitial, I can usually be found outdoors with camera and tripod in my hand and a grin from ear to ear.

From program management to design through development and testing, I frequently have wanted to wear many hats in my career. I like to be engaged at every level of the creative process and I am always interested in new ideas and curious about how things work. Currently my passions are in Usability and Accessibility. I approach each project with the philosophy of "design for all." I believe that in order to make a great project one should have some familiarity with the different parts of the process. Here are some of the technologies I have picked up along the way:

  • Usability Design / Testing - Prototyping and testing design concepts with focus groups
  • Information Architecture - Organizing and structuring content to promote usability and discoverability (SEO)
  • Graphic Design - Creating user experiences and interfaces
  • xHTML and CSS - Developing semantically correct web sites and separating content from presentation
  • MS SQL and MYSQL- Setting up and maintaining databases, generating reports, data mining and storage
  • ASP and PHP - Building dynamic web sites
  • Flash - Producing animations and programming Rich Internet Applications

This web site was designed and created by me to showcase some of my professional projects. I built this web site using xhtml, css, php, and mysql. The xhtml and css should validate against xhtml 1.0 strict and a screen reader should be able to parse the web site. All work and content was produced by me. Example code and user interface designs from third party web sites remain the property of their owners.

A lot of people ask why moose... well all I can say is buy me a beer sometime and I'll spin you a tale.
